Running to help other children

On your marks: Barooga Public School students take off from the cross country start line.

Success: Placegetters in the cross-country event.

Barooga Public School students pounded the pavement recently for a very special cause.

The school ran its annual cross country on Friday, May 12, while also raising funds for the Ironman for Noah, which is supporting River’s Gift.

Local man Adrian Hayward is tackling the Ironman in a few weeks, to help stamp out Sudden Infant Death Syndrome through River’s Gift.

The school’s SRC asked each student to donate one dollar for every kilometre they ran on the day, with students raising more than $111 for their efforts on the track, which ran through the bushland near the swing bridge.

Currently, the Ironman for Noah – River’s Gift fundraising total is $7839, and is closing in on reaching its $10000 goal with less than a month to go.

Mr Hayward is still on track with his training for his maiden Ironman, injury-free, reaching his goals and getting into the serious end of the program.
