Barooga product Daniel Johnston has followed up a starring turn with the Murray Bushrangers last week, booting another two goals in the team’s win over the Calder Cannons on the weekend.
In the beginning, the Bushies were left to rue a wasteful first term, kicking 1.7 which forced the clash with Calder Cannons into a scrappy contest for the majority of the match.
The inaccuracy of the first term was rectified in the second with four goals; however, a lapse in concentration and fast transition from Calder saw the margin reduced to 10 points at the final break with a six goals to two.
The final term saw the Bushrangers secure the win with three goals to two to run out 19-point winners against the winless Calder.
The defence was again led strongly by Ben Paton and Kyle Clarke who played their roles to perfection while Jessy Wilson continues to develop as a dangerous half forward and kicked three goals with his agility and strong marking a highlight.
The Bushrangers again debuted players with Yarrawonga’s Joe Gorman and Shepparton United’s Zane Barzen.
Gorman battled manfully against VIC Metro’s number one ruckman, while Barzen was lively up forward kicking a goal and taking a some nice marks across the half forward line.
The Murray Bushrangers now return to the Wangaratta Showgrounds and will play Sandringham Dragons in a curtain raiser to the Werribee v Collingwood VFL clash.
