The Katunga Water Supply Protection Area draft amended Groundwater Management Plan is now available for comment.
The Katunga Consultative Committee was appointed by Water Minister Lisa Neville to consider proposals to update and improve the plan.
The plan describes how deep groundwater located at depths greater than 25m from the surface can be extracted and used in the Katunga WSPA.
Committee chair Natalie Akers said the committee had undertaken extensive community consultation during the past 12 months to inform the proposed changes to the plan.
‘‘The committee invites comment from the community on the draft amended plan,’’ Ms Akers said.
The committee will soon send out a copy of the draft amended plan and a submission form to all licensed groundwater users in the Katunga WSPA.
The main changes to the plan relate to how groundwater can be traded, how allocations are applied as well as groundwater monitoring arrangements.
‘‘The amended plan provides groundwater users with greater flexibility to manage their groundwater use,’’ she said.
●Submissions on the plan will be received until 5pm on Friday, May 12, 2017.
These will be considered by the committee and forwarded on to the Water Minister for consideration.
