Up and away: The students release their balloons into the sky on Harmony Day.

St Joseph’s Primary School got into the Harmony Day spirit when students released orange balloons into the bright blue sky on Tuesday, March 21.

Students assembled as a school and each class attached a prayer or special message to a balloon which was released in a display of cultural respect for everyone who calls Australia home.

Harmony Day is held each year on March 21 to celebrate cultural diversity. It involves inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone.

The day coincides with the United Nations’ International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.

This year marked 51 years since the declaration of the day.
