Fastest on course: Vicki Stevenson and her pony Tim Tam were awarded fastest novice pony during the marathon event.

The Victorian Carriage Driving Championships were held over the Labour Day long weekend at the Oaklands Hunt Club in Greenvale, Melbourne with local drivers excelling.

The newly formed Northern Country Carriage Driving Club, which is based at the Muckatah Recreation Reserve, had two representatives competing in the three-phase event.

Vicki Stevenson from Naring, driving her home-bred pony Naringbrook Tim Tam, took home the championship for the novice small pony class.

This was the second year in a row that Stevenson had taken out the event as well as the perpetual trophy for the fastest novice pony in a marathon.

Stevenson also won the novice state team event as well as joining up with club member Dawn Walter to win the club team against 14 other clubs.

Walters, who hails from Cobram and was driving her pony Yanina Mister Mystical, won the dressage in the intermediate class and was leading the field into the cones but was pipped at the post by a mere four points.
