People are being encouraged to get involved in the Berrigan Shire 2017 Business and Environment Awards by nominating a business in the people’s choice award, with nominations closing today.
Or if you’re a business owner, nominate a great employee, apprentice or trainee.
The shire’s best in business will be honoured at a gala ceremony to be held April 20.
There are 12 award categories, with some (marked with an *) linking directly with the next level of competition.
Winners of these sections will automatically become finalists in the regional NSW Business Chamber awards, with an opportunity to then progress to state level.
Nominations close today, with independent judges expected to visit nominated businesses between Sunday and April 5.
Award categories are:
●excellence in event management;
●excellence in tourism and hospitality;
●excellence in sustainability*;
●excellence in small business* (less than 20 employees);
●excellence in business*;
●excellence in export*;
●excellence in innovation*;
●young business executive* (18 to 35 years);
●business leader* (36+ years);
●people’s choice for excellence in customer service;
●employee of the year; and
●apprentice or trainee of the year.
Berrigan Shire economic and industry development liaison officer Merran Socha encouraged people to get involved in the people’s choice awards.
‘‘We want people to nominate businesses for the excellence in customer service award,’’ she said.
‘‘There will be a top five chosen, which will then be opened to a vote. For businesses who are interested in the regional awards, it is encouraged they nominate for one of the pathway categories.’’
Businesses can be entered in as many eligible sections as possible, and are required to fill out the necessary applications for each.
Mrs Socha said businesses and community members should also start thinking about booking tickets for the gala dinner, which is always a popular event.
‘‘The presentation night is always a good night, so we want as many people to get involved as possible.’’
The awards are supported by the Southern Riverina News, Berrigan and District Development Association, Barooga Advancement Group, Finley Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture and Tocumwal Chamber of Commerce and Tourism.
