Plenty of action in Numurkah

March 10, 2017

Another warm night brings the best out of our squash players at Numurkah.

Some of the highlighted games for the night were seen by Sam Kelly v Eamon Storer in line six of the competition.

Kelly was going in strong from the first serve to keep his undefeated position for the 2017 summer competition.

Storer placed a few lengthy shots to prove to Kelly that he was still a part of the competition.

Kelly was offered a hair tie to hold his long hair out of his eyes before the match.

Clearly, in third game, he had his eye closely on the ball, as he took his confident game to keep the undefeated position for round five.

With Storer keeping Kelly alert and on his toes, for each point in the three-set match, we saw some really good competitive squash from our junior level.

The two boys drew a crowd from our higher level competitors and will be creating a bit of worry for the coming years as our youngsters are showing strong, convincing ability on the squash court.

Scores: Sam Kelly d Eamon Storer 9-5,9-5,9-6.

Sonia Withers v Marco Franco in line four competition saw Franco hit his way to a convincing lead over the accurate hitting Withers.

He had her a little bluffed in the first game, but she then came back with some fight and determination to take a lead in the second game to show Franco this was not going to be an easy win for him.

Franco got a lead in early in the third game and with a convincing lead had Withers a little rattled with her accurate ball placing game.

Franco again got out to a lead in the fourth game until Withers came fighting back but unfortunately left the run a little too late.

Scores: Franco d Withers 9-3, 8-10, 9-1, 9-5.

Phil Armstrong v Gav Banko in line two saw Armstrong get off to a roaring start having the court covered and giving Banko nowhere to go, until the tin became a favourite part of Armstrong’s game in the first game.

Banko came back challenging Armstrong over the next two games.

Banko then found the fire and took the match out to a thrilling five-setter defeating Armstrong in the end.

Scores: Banko d Armstrong 8-10, 5-9, 9-0, 9-0, 9-3.

A few of the other scores for round five: Andrew Storer defeated David Poort 9-2, 9-4, 9-2; Dave Kelly didn’t give Chris Poort an inch when he realised she was on her off foot all night, defeating her quite confidently 9-0, 9-0, 9-3; and Will Watkins showed no room for Peter Black to keep the dust of his racquet in his return to squash. Will took the game out to a convincing win 9-4, 9-4, 9-4.
