Lost friend remembered at special mass

February 17, 2017

Never forgotten: Classmates of Connor Remmerswaal remember their friend at the opening mass of the St Marys of the Angels school year.

Nathalia’s St Mary of the Angels Secondary College and St Francis Primary School joined with their canonical administrator Father Michael Grace to celebrate the start of the school year with an open-air Mass last Thursday.

The opening Mass was offered for Koonoomoo’s Connor Remmerswaal, a classmate of the students at St Mary of the Angels, who died in late December.

The Mass celebrated the friendship Connor shared with students and focused on the community growing together and striving to reach individual’s hopes and dreams.

The commissioning of the Year 12 and Year 6 student leaders concluded the Mass.

Inspiring words from last year’s college dux Hannah Conroy set the tone for the 2017 school year. Hannah’s graciousness and humour in reflecting upon her achievements resonated with both the St Francis and the St Mary school communities.

The importance of working hard, of not placing too much emphasis on the ATAR as the pinnacle of the school experience and treating one another with kindness, were tips that will serve all students well.
