The new house captains for 2017 at Cobram Secondary College were announced at a school assembly on Monday.
Family of the new captains were on hand to congratulate the students on the achievement.
In all, 32 students were chosen as house captains, with four senior and four middle school students picked for each house.
Acting principal John Sciacca said it was great to see so many of the school’s students stand up and assume the leadership positions.
‘‘We had more than 50 students put their hand up, which runs in line with our school motto for this year: ‘Why not me?’,’’ Mr Sciacca said.
‘‘We want the students to think to themselves why shouldn’t they get a high ATAR score if they put their mind to it.
‘‘So far in this young school year, we are really seeing the students stepping up and giving themselves high expectations.’’
The captains will be in charge of the houses for the upcoming school swimming and athletics carnivals.
Each house at the school is named after a fallen soldier from the Cobram area: Goodman House (blue), Rose House (red), Jordan House (yellow) and Shadford House (green).
