Moira Shire motorists should avoid Parnell Rd for the near future as upgrades take place.
Moira Shire operations manager Rick Devlin said the works to Parnell Rd, south of Cobram, would take a while to complete and would include a widening of the road.
‘‘The Parnell Rd works is a large job that begins with extensive drainage improvements,’’ Mr Devlin said.
‘‘Our teams will excavate the table drains the full length of both sides of the road, install a cross road culvert and eight driveway culverts.
‘‘We can then begin the process of stabilising the base and rebuilding the shape of the road before we spray on the 7.6m wide bitumen seal.’’
Before the works, Parnell Rd was a narrow stretch of road that couldn’t fit two vehicles moving in opposite directions.
Mr Devlin said the road would not be available for use for at least two months.
‘‘Weather and works permitting we expect to be sealing the road in mid-April.’’
Mr Devlin asked for anyone who uses Parnell Rd to be aware that detours will be in place during the works and to remain safe when taking alternative routes.
‘‘At various stages of the project detours will be in place and we ask everyone to drive safely.’’
Signs in the area of the works indicate a detour for those wanting to use Parnell Rd at this stage should use Healy Rd.
