The latest of the big tomatoes in Cobram has surfaced, with two contenders arriving last week.
On Wednesday morning, Noel ‘Wallie’ Wall presented the Courier with his 650g home-grown tomato.
Mr Wall said he planted the roma tomato seed on October 6 and picked it recently.
‘‘I realised it was pretty big on the vine, and it just kept on growing,’’ Mr Wall said.
‘‘Like a lot of people, there isn’t really a secret to it, just cow manure is all I use.’’
Mr Wall said he had grand plans for his oversized creation, most likely in the kitchen.
‘‘Fried tomatoes and onions will be on the menu, that’s for sure,’’ he said.
●The previous tomato published in the Courier that was still growing on Tony Raco’s vine has been picked.
Mr Raco’s tomato weighed in at 1.25kg, eclipsing last year’s effort.
Remarkably, Mr Raco had another four tomatoes on the same vine which topped the 1kg mark.
