Power out: Strong winds on Sunday brought down a power line in High St, Cobram.

Repair: A tecnician works to fix the power line.

Thousands of residents lost power on Sunday night as strong winds wreaked havoc on powerlines in Cobram.

Powercor technicians and local SES volunteers were called to an incident on High St about 6pm after strong winds and airborne tree branches, bark and debris hit a powerline after a cool front hit the region earlier that afternoon.

Power was disconnected to one property for about two hours as crews worked to fix the powerline.

Later that evening, power was cut off to about 2000 homes in Cobram after winds and flying tree debris hit the main powerline between Cobram and Yarrawonga.

A Powercor spokesperson said the power was out between about 10.30pm and 11.45pm.

The spokesperson said crews responded to the incidents and were able to resolve them quite quickly and safely.
